Wards Automotive recently got a chance to test drive the 2017 Chevy Silverado HD and its GMC cousin the Sierra, and to say they were impressed would be an understatement. All new for the 2017 model year, only 10% of the parts that comprise the LP5 Duramax engine were carried over from the previous generation – redesigned parts include the crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, exhaust after-treatment system, cast-iron block and aluminum heads. The result is 445 horsepower and 910 pound feet of torque and a maximum towing capacity of 18100 pounds. Overall, Wards says, “This re-engineered pushrod powerplant makes a compelling case for overall segment supremacy by being whisper-quiet and nearly vibration-free at idle and steady-state cruising. It tows big loads with aplomb, even on treacherously steep, narrow winding roads.” Phillips Chevrolet of Frankfort and Lansing has Illinois’ Largest Chevy Inventory, including a great selection of Silverado HD currently in stock.
